Visit to Pong dam
Pong dam  lake is  300 sq km of man made wet land.It is located in Kangra District of Himachal pradesh.It also enjoy the status of Ramser Site.Every year hundred of migratory birds visit this wonderful lake.This year Team from GHNP got chance to participate in annual  bird count.It was a unique experience.A well designed protocol had been developed to collect scientific data.Whole area was divided into number of section and each section was assigned to team of five to six members.All team memeber started count at same time and recorded the number of birds sighted.At the end of day all teams put all data in one sheet and data was analysed .The same exercise was repeated next day to ge replication.Second day the location of teams was changed to avoid biasness.Our team visited deep waters upto rancer Island.We could locate tufted ducks,grebes,great cormorant,little cormorant,River terns,gulls and group of Bar headed geese.This year it is estmated that arround 36000 bar headed geese visited pong dam.

Really a place which every bird watcher must visit ......
